O fficer Michael Garza joined the San Antonio Police Department in 2007. He was named orator of his graduating police academy class. Mike has had the opportunity to patrol a variety of locations throughout the city and has received numerous commendations for his service. He is a certified crisis intervention officer. He has also completed a variety of continuing training courses, such as statement analysis and effective investigation of impaired driving in order to excel in policing.

Mike is a graduate of Winston Churchill High School located in San Antonio, Texas where he was named captain and MVP of the track team his senior year. He received both a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in public administration from The University of Texas at San Antonio. Mike has studied public policy implementation and social work in Lima, Peru and Machu Picchu.

Mike proudly serves in the United States Army Reserve. He attended Basic Training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky where he was named “Honor Graduate” of his graduating class. He attended advanced individual training in Aberdeen, Maryland where he was presented the “Top All Around Student” award. He received his commission through the University of Texas ROTC program. Mike served in Iraq where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions. He has completed the Department of Defense’s Public Affairs Qualification Course and has commanded a public affairs detachment located at Ft. Sam Houston. Currently, Mike is a logistics officer in a civil affairs brigade located at Ft. Sam Houston.
