fficer David Higgins joined the San Antonio Police Department in 2009 after a successful 20 year career in the United States Air Force. David was elected Sgt at Arms of his Police Academy Class. David has worked several assignments and shifts while on Patrol. Working West Patrol B-Shift, East Patrol C-Shift and Prue Patrol T-shifts, where he received several commendations for his actions. During his time on patrol Officer David had the opportunity to work several Special Assignments with the Repeat Offenders Unit (ROP) and as a primary trainer for the department’s Body Worn Camera program. David has also attended multiple advanced training courses from ALERTT active shooter training to DPS Narcotics and Highway Interdiction courses.
David has an associate’s degree from The Community Collage of The Air Force and is currently pursuing a bachelor‘s degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Wayland Baptist University.
Before coming to the SAPD Officer David was a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Air Force (USAF) as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, the military equivalent of SAPD’s Bomb Squad. During his USAF career he had many assignments both state side and overseas. He held many positions in his 15yrs as an EOD Tech from Team Member to Flight Chief and completed his last 4 years of service as the EOD Program Manger at the 433rd AW, Lackland AFB, TX. David is a veteran of several deployments and has lead teams providing EOD support to federal agencies like the US Secret Service, US State Department, as well as other federal and local agencies. Officer David is also a certified DoD instructor and spent time teaching at the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, Eglin AFB, FL.
